90 <h3>How do I install plugins?</h3>
95 Installation will vary a little depending on how you get plugins. If
96 your repository has a particular plugin package, just install it using
97 the normal software package management tool for your system. Most
98 Linux distributions that are good for audio work will have most of
99 the LADSPA and LV2 plugins mentioned above available in ready-to-use
103 Finding them will typically require <em>searching</em> your
104 distribution's repository to find the name of the package. The tools
105 for doing this vary from distribution to distribution. A good place
106 to start searching is with the name of the package (e.g. "caps" or
107 "calf"). There are no fixed rules about what different Linux
108 distributions call their packages for a given set of plugins.
111 If the package isn't available, then you can build the plugins from
112 source (plugins are generally fairly easy to compile if you've ever
113 done this sort of thing before).
116 LADSPA plugins are shared library files. They need to be installed
117 in either /usr/lib/ladspa, /usr/local/lib/ladspa or in a directory
118 mentioned in your LADSPA_PATH environment variable.
121 LV2 plugins are folders/directories. They need to
122 installed in either /usr/lib/lv2, /usr/local/lib/lv2 or a directory
123 mentioned in your LV2_PATH environment variable.
126 Linux VST (LXVST) plugins are distributed as shared library
